Lean on me
When you're not strong
 I'll give you hope
 I'll help you carry on
We all need somebody to lean on.
                                                from the song

Nothing is more true than this song when it comes to grandparents raising grandchildren. Together we can ease the pain, share the good times and help one another to grow and be the best we can be for our grandchildren, our families and ourselves. To be with others who know exactly what we are going through is so healing.  Some have been there and done that and can help us past the rough spots and can give us hope that we too can not only survive this new adventure of raising grandchildren but flourish and bring forth a new generation of responsible human beings. What better goal could a person have.

Below is a list of the support groups that we know about in your state. If you know of a support group in this state Please contact kathy@grandsplace.org..

Family Caregiver Support Program
The Commission on Aging has received new federal money for the Family Caregiver Support Program. This new program will provide support to family caregivers of any age providing care for an older family member and older persons caring for a grandchild. Services that can be provided through this program include:
Information about the availability of support services
Assistance in gaining access to services
Individual counseling to help make decisions and solve problems
Respite care
Supplemental services
Information, assistance and counseling can be provided to any caregiver, but respite and supplemental services are limited to caregiver support for older individuals who are unable to perform at least two activities of daily living or, due to a cognitive or other mental impairment require substantial supervision. Priority is to be given to older individuals and families with the greatest social and economic need, with particular attention to low-income individuals and older persons caring for a grandchild under age 18 with mental retardation or developmental disabilities.
These services will be provided through the Commission’s Home and Community Services Network.
